The participating galleries are mainly located near the Madison, Artus and Buci hotels, in rue de Seine and rue Mazarine, between Saint Germain des Prés Church and the banks of the Seine.

In 1998, seven gallery directors in Saint Germain des Prés decided to create an annual art event in their historic Paris neighbourhood. This will be the first edition of Art Saint-Germain-des-Prés.
Under the “100 Galeries Font l’événement” (“The 100 Gallery Event”) banner, the challenge is to bring together all of the art professionals in this historical perimeter, with all their respective diversity and wealth, proposing 4 “event” days in the springtime with a joint opening on Thursday evening, staying open until the following Sunday evening.
The event was an immediate success. Visitors could admire works by major names in modern and contemporary art as well as by the new generation of artists representing all currents.

Given its success, the event grew and now includes professionals in Design and Primitive Arts. Each year it attracts the media and an ever growing audience
Art Saint-Germain-des-Prés is now recognised as a major artistic event in Paris. It is held every year at the end of May.
