A FAMILY STORY

The family business goes back to 1909, when Edmond Hurand bought several Parisian brasseries, one of which was the famous Elysée Montmartre and a piece of land situated on the hill of Montmartre, at the corner of rue Joseph de Maistre and rue Caulaincourt.

The Terrass Hotel opened in 1911 with a terrace on the roof and 120 rooms.
Edmond sold it but decided to buy it back in 1923, under the pressure of his son Maurice. Since then, the Terrass Hotel has always remained in the family.

Its history is fascinating: requisitioned by the German Army in 1939, then by a group of officers from the American Police, the hotel nurtures numerous stories. It is said that the Germans had hid treasures in the cellars during the Second World War.
No-one has found them to this day!

In 1954, Jean-Max Hurand, son of Maurice, renovated the hotel completely.
He added a bar, brasserie and restaurant thus making it a meeting place for famous artists and writers such as Colette, Michel Simon, Pierre Brasseur and the pianist Samson François.

Time went by. The success of the hotel was confirmed as the extensive terrace on the 7th floor became the favourite meeting point of personalities from all over Paris.

In 1994, Christine, the daughter of Jean-Max, and her husband Jean Luc Binet took over the management of the hotel. Their aim was to transform the Terrass Hotel into the most luxurious hotel in northern Paris.

They have achieved their goal: 98 spacious and elegant rooms & suites display a refined decor. The restaurant has changed its style and name: the “Diapason” has become one of the most renowned restaurants in Montmartre.

With a trendy decoration in tones of grey and beige, it offers delicate recipes with Mediterranean flavours and high quality service. In summer, the terrace which looks over Paris is an exquisitely romantic place to have lunch or dinner. When the weather cools down at tea time, the piano bar near the fireplace downstairs carries off all the votes.

200 sqm of meeting space can be adapted according to the needs of the clients and turned into one or several meeting rooms for seminars or conferences.
