A Family History

The family vocation dates back to 1909, the year in which Edmond Hurand bought a number of Parisian brasseries, including the famous Elysée Montmartre, and a plot of land on the Butte Montmartre, on the corner of Rue Joseph de Maistre and Rue Caulaincourt.

By 1911, a 120-bedroom hotel with a roof terrace had already opened its doors: the Terrass Hotel. Edmond sold the hotel but, under pressure from his son Maurice, bought it back in 1923. The Terrass Hotel has remained in family hands ever since.

In 1954, Jean-Max Hurand, Maurice's only son, had the hotel completely renovated. He expanded the hotel, added a bar, brasserie and restaurant to attract a clientele of artists and writers that eventually included Colette, Michel Simon, Pierre Brasseur and pianist Samson François.

The years went by. The hotel went from success to success, while the rooftop terrace in fine weather became a favourite with everyone who mattered in Paris.

In 1994, Jean-Max Hurand's daughter Christine and her husband, Jean-Luc Binet, took over the family business. They became the 4th generation of the family to take the by now century-old business forward into the future.

With the arrival of their daughter Emilie Arabyan as manager of the Hotel Bourgogne et Montana in 2010 and of their son Romain Binet as manager of the Artus and the Buci Hotels in 2011, the Hôtels Maurice Hurand welcomes the 5th generation to perpetuate the family tradition.
